Google Gemini will power a significant part of the experience across those phones and tablets. The rollout places AI directly into the default layer of devices people already use. Suggestions surface while you’re still typing, responses appear before a search is fully formed. At that scale, distribution shapes usage, and the assistant that comes pre-installed becomes the one people engage with first.
Most people are already using AI on their phones without labeling it as such. It appears when a photo app removes a passerby, when a sentence completes itself on the keyboard, when Maps adjusts a route in real time, or when a device surfaces a translation or summary before a query is finished. These interactions have become routine, embedded into everyday use. Those capabilities are consolidating into a continuous layer across the device. Suggestions appear mid-task, reducing the number of decisions along the way and shaping how tasks unfold and which options appear first. Each interaction feeds back into the system, gradually aligning it with individual habits.
The assistant that ships with the device carries an inherent advantage, supported by habits that tend to follow default settings once they perform reliably. The same shift is playing out across platforms, with AI being built directly into operating systems, including iOS, shaping how these systems are introduced and experienced. Repeated use strengthens the system through a feedback loop that improves relevance over time and reinforces the default experience. The rollout unfolds through small changes that compound, a task completes faster, a response arrives earlier, a decision forms with less effort, gradually shaping how interactions take place across the day, often before a decision is fully formed. It becomes something to notice: which suggestions you follow, which defaults you rely on, and how often the system is deciding alongside you.
